House, Senate override Patrick’s fire services veto reduction
House 150-0, Senate 37-0, overrode Gov. Patrick’s veto reduction of $2.3 million (from $16.8 million to $14.5 million) for fire services. The funds are used for administration of the Department of Fire Services, including the Office of the State Fire Marshal, the Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Program, the Board of Fire Prevention Regulations and the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy.

Kitty City, the frontier-style humane house cat adoption center in La Luz, will offer dozens of kittens and friendly house cats for adoption during the Best Friends Forever Adopt-a-thon event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at White Sands Mall. According to Sunny Aris, co-director of the no-kill cat shelter in La Luz, the event was born of great necessity.
